Course description

Asbestos remains one of the most dangerous health hazards in construction, maintenance, and refurbishment environments. This Asbestos Awareness course provides vital knowledge to help workers identify potential asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), understand the health risks of exposure, and follow safe procedures to avoid disturbing asbestos in the workplace.

Exposure to asbestos fibres can lead to life-threatening illnesses such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis. Despite being banned in the UK since 1999, asbestos still exists in many older buildings — and disturbing it without precaution can have devastating long-term effects.

This course, developed by industry professionals at SEITECH International, raises awareness of asbestos types, safe work practices, emergency response, and the legal obligations under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

It aligns with UK legislation including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, and guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
