ProQual Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF)

ProQual Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF)

Course Description

The ProQual Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is a nationally recognised

qualification designed for professionals responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of assessment within

organisations or assessment centres. This qualification equips IQA practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and practical

competence needed to internally monitor, support, and quality assure assessment decisions in line with current standards

and regulatory requirements.

Learners develop a deep understanding of the principles and practices that underpin internal quality assurance, including

planning IQA activities, sampling assessor decisions, supporting assessors, maintaining assessment integrity, ensuring

compliance with legislation, and managing information securely. The qualification combines theoretical knowledge with

practical workplace performance, ensuring candidates are fully prepared to undertake role-specific IQA responsibilities.

Total Study Hours

  • Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 90
  • Total Qualification Time (TQT): 120

Why Choose This Qualification?

  • Nationally recognised and Ofqual-regulated qualification from ProQual.
  • Builds essential competence for internal quality assurance roles within training centres, colleges, private training providers,
  •  and workplace learning environments.
  • Provides the foundation required to support assessors, standardise assessment practice, and ensure compliance with
  •  internal and external quality assurance frameworks.
  • Ideal progression route from assessor qualifications (A1, D32/33, Level 3 CAVA).
  • Develops both knowledge (principles and practices) and performance (practical IQA skills).
  • Assessment is flexible and work-based, allowing learners to use real evidence from their role.
  • Highly valued by OFSTED-compliant learning environments, apprenticeship providers, and awarding-body regulated centres.

Who Is This Course For?

This qualification is intended for individuals who:

  • Maintain the quality of assessment decisions within an organisation or assessment centre.
  • Support and monitor assessors in day-to-day practice.
  • Are responsible for ensuring assessment decisions are valid, reliable, fair, and consistent.
  • Are working in, or progressing into, roles such as:
  • Internal Quality Assurer (IQA)
  • Lead IQA
  • Assessment Centre Quality Reviewer

  • Training Centre Compliance Officer

The qualification is suitable for those working across multiple sectors, including education, vocational training, apprenticeships,

Course Structure

To achieve the Level 4 Award, learners must complete two mandatory units:

1. Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment

2. Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment

Entry Requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements, but it is strongly recommended that learners already hold an assessor

  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
  • A1 or D32/D33 assessor awards

  • IQA monitoring reports
  • Professional discussions
  • Written assignments
  • Witness testimonies
  • IQA sampling plans
  • Records of standardisation activities

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Do I need to be employed as an IQA to complete this qualification?

Yes. You must be in a role where you can monitor at least two assessors, each with two candidates, as this is part of the

evidence requirement. Some centres may provide simulated evidence, but workplace evidence is preferred.

2. Is this qualification suitable for apprenticeship providers?

Absolutely. This Level 4 Award is widely used across apprenticeship and work-based learning organisations to meet internal quality assurance requirements.

3. What qualification can I progress to after completing this?

Learners may progress to the ProQual Level 4 Certificate in Leading Internal Quality Assurance, Management qualifications, or

senior quality/compliance roles.
