Course description

·         Over a half day period, learners will cover basic fire safety principles, including: causes of fires in the workplace, basic fire safety duties and responsibilities, principles of fire risk control, safe use of portable fire-fighting equipment and more.

The Qualsafe Level 1 Award in Fire Safety Awareness (RQF) is designed as an introductory qualification for people who want to increase their awareness of fire safety in the workplace.

  • Recognise common causes of workplace fires and how they can be prevented
  • Identify key components of the fire triangle and how fire spreads
  • Understand the importance of fire safety signage and what different signs mean

  • Know how to respond in the event of a fire, including raising the alarm and evacuation
  • Understand basic emergency procedures including assembly points and fire drills
  • Identify types of fire extinguishers and their correct usage
  • Understand the role of fire safety personnel, including fire marshals and wardens
  • Promote personal responsibility and awareness in preventing workplace fires
