Course description

During this half day course, learners will develop their understanding of the law relating to hazardous substances in the workplace and the precautions and procedures required to ensure they are properly controlled, as well as learn how risk assessments contribute to the safe use of hazardous substances.

What will i learn?

Understand the purpose and scope of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002
Identify hazardous substances in the workplace and the risks they pose to health
Interpret key information from product labels and safety data sheets (SDS)
Understand the routes of entry by which hazardous substances affect the body
Recognise common health effects including acute and chronic exposure symptoms
Understand the employer's and employee’s legal responsibilities under COSHH
Identify suitable control measures using the hierarchy of control
Understand how to apply risk assessment principles to hazardous substances
Recognise the importance of correct storage, handling, and disposal procedures
Support a culture of health protection and safety awareness in relation to chemical use
